New Zealand Travel Start
February 24, 2017
The adventure has started. 4 months of travelling through New Zealand here we come!!!
On 15th February Vivi and I arrived in Auckland and stayed 1 week at the Brown Kiwi. The “Brown Kiwi” is an amazing hostel and possibly the best place to stay in while being in Auckland. The hostel is an older colonial house with a total of 30 beds, offering dorm, share, twin, double or family rooms.
The prices start from NZ$27 for a dorm room to NZ$36 for a double/twin room, which makes a stay truly affordable. Moreover, the hostel has a very nice kitchen, eating area, a living room with a TV and a hard drive with lots of movies on, as well as a beautiful garden. Not to forget Steffi, the old but still cute black cat. The staff is also very nice and helpful. If you have any questions regarding buying a car, insurance or how to get a job, you can just ask them and they will help you.
Brown Kiwi is located in Ponsonby near Ponsonby Road (15 min to CBD, which is the town centre of Auckland). On Ponsonby Road, you find lots of cafés, shops, bars, pubs and clubs, which makes this area very popular for the younger Kiwi generation.
During our stay in Auckland, we had to get most of your paperwork done, meaning getting a bank account, applying for an IRD number as well as buying a car.
However, we made so many new friends and felt like home at Brown Kiwi, which made the first week away from home a lot easier. I could not recommend this place even more to you.
If you are consider coming to New Zealand I would recommend getting a “BBH Card”, which costs you NZ$47 but helps you to save up to NZ$10 per night per person in BBH Hostels. This is probably the best idea if you want to save lots of money, especially while travelling in the low-season.
You find the link to the BBH Card right here.
There will also be a post with some tips on how you can make your plans and travels to/in New Zealand easier.
The road trip has started last Wednesday and our first stop is Piha Beach.
